To up and get you off my mind
Just when I finally got a prayer to pray
Your memory creeps up from behind
It don't matter
How many miles down the road
It don't matter
You're always with me
Written in the history of my heart
I've a tried a little bit of everything
To start again with someone new
But every time a path seems promising
It leads me right back here to you
It don't matter
How many miles down the road
It don't matter
How many times I let you go
You're always with me
Written in the history of my heart
No way I'm meant to walk
This world on my own
Some words are only wind
Some words are etched in stone
In stone
It don't matter
How many miles down the road
It don't matter
How many times I let you go
You're always with me
Written in the history of my heart
Written in the history of my heart
The history of my heart
Jonathan Jackson's song Borrow My Heart is an emotional ballad that narrates the struggles of moving on from a past love. The first verse indicates that the singer has made efforts to get over the person and move on. However, the memories of the loved one resurface and haunt him. The memories of their relationship or the character of the loved one sticks, and even though he longs to let go, he can't seem to find a way.
The chorus resonates with the core message of the song. No matter how much the singer tries to move on, the loved one's memory is written in the history of the singer's heart. The memory remains with him no matter how far he goes or how many times he attempts to let go. The second verse develops the idea as the singer says that he has tried many things to start a new chapter of his life, but they all lead him back to his past love.
The song concludes by bringing a sense of realization that the singer wasn't meant to walk alone in the world. He understands that the words etched in stone have a different weight than those that blow away with the wind. Therefore, the loved one's memory is not a fleeting memory because it is engraved in the singer's history.
