History of My Heart

To up and get you off my mind
Just when I finally got a prayer to pray
Your memory creeps up from behind
It don't matter
How many miles down the road
It don't matter
You're always with me
Written in the history of my heart
I've a tried a little bit of everything
To start again with someone new
But every time a path seems promising
It leads me right back here to you
It don't matter
How many miles down the road
It don't matter
How many times I let you go
You're always with me
Written in the history of my heart
No way I'm meant to walk
This world on my own
Some words are only wind
Some words are etched in stone
In stone
It don't matter
How many miles down the road
It don't matter
How many times I let you go
You're always with me
Written in the history of my heart
Written in the history of my heart
The history of my heart
The song "History of My Heart" by Jonathan Jackson is a ballad of a man who is struggling to move on from a lost love. The lyrics express his desperation in trying to forget his past love and move on to find someone new, but no matter how hard he tries, he cannot escape the memories of his past relationship. The lyrics are emotional and powerful, with the singer admitting that he has tried everything to move on, but all paths end up bringing him back to his lost love.
The first stanza sets up the problem, which is that even though the singer has been trying to forget his lost love and move on, her memory keeps coming back to him. In the second stanza, he admits that he has tried everything to move on, but nothing has worked. The repeated refrain, "It don't matter how many miles down the road, it don't matter how many times I let you go, you're always with me, written in the history of my heart" underscores the message that this love is indelibly imprinted on his heart and will be with him always.
The final stanza offers a glimmer of hope, acknowledging that the singer cannot walk through life alone, and that some things are written in stone. The song ends with the repeated refrain that the lost love will always be with him, written in the history of his heart. The lyrics are bolstered by Jackson's affecting voice and the gentle instrumentation of the piano.

Just when I think I've finally found a way
Every time I believe that I've managed to forget about you
To up and get you off my mind
And move on from thinking about you completely
Just when I finally got a prayer to pray
And finally found a way to start fresh
Your memory creeps up from behind
Your memory suddenly pops into my mind
It don't matter
No matter what happens
How many miles down the road
Even if I travel a long distance
How many times I let you go
Even if I try to move on repeatedly
You're always with me
You're always in my heart
Written in the history of my heart
A permanent memory in my heart
I've a tried a little bit of everything
I've experimented with different things
To start again with someone new
To find a new person to start over with
But every time a path seems promising
But whenever I find a potential new path
It leads me right back here to you
It always leads me back to thinking about you
No way I'm meant to walk
I'm not supposed to walk alone
This world on my own
In this world by myself
Some words are only wind
Some things people say aren't meaningful
Some words are etched in stone
But some words are permanently ingrained
In stone
Forever
The history of my heart
The past experiences and emotions of my heart
