Gréco became a devotee of the bohemian fashion of some intellectuals of post-war France. She dressed generally in black and let her long, black hair hang free.
A famous description of Gréco is that her voice "encompasses millions of poems".[cite this quote] She was known to many of the writers and artists working in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Boris Vian.[cite this quote]
Gréco spent the post liberation years frequenting the Saint Germain cafes, immersing herself in political and philosophical Bohemian culture. As a regular figure at legendary music and poetry venues like Le Tabou on Rue Dauphine, Greco became acquainted with Miles Davis and Jean Cocteau, even being given a role in Cocteau’s film ‘Orphee’ in 1949. During the same year, she began a new singing career with a number of well-known French writers writing lyrics – Raymond Queneau’s ‘Si Tu T’Imagines’ was one of her earliest songs to become popular. [1]
American movie producer and studio head Darryl F. Zanuck, who was Gréco's paramour, cast her in several films from the late 1950s to early 1960s.[2]
She has been married three times: to actor Philippe Lemaire (1953-1956; one daughter, Laurence-Marie Lemaire, b. 1954), actor Michel Piccoli (1966-1977), and pianist Gérard Jouannest (1988-).

Alors vraiment
Avec le temps on n'aime plus
"Avec Le Temps" is a French song by Juliette Gréco that translates to "With Time." The song is a poignant ode to growing older and coming to terms with the inevitability of loss, both of love and of the people we hold dear. The lyrics explore the theme of transience and how everything fades away over time. The opening lines, "Avec le temps, va, tout s'en va, On oublie le visage et l'on oublie la voix," express the idea that everything disappears with time; we forget faces, voices, and even a heartbeat.
Moving on, the song delves into the realization that even the most cherished memories eventually fade away, taking with them the people we loved. Gréco sings about "l'autre qu'on adorait, qu'on cherchait sous la pluie, l'autre qu'on devinait au détour d'un regard" - the one we adored, the one we searched for in the pouring rain, the one we glimpsed in a fleeting look. But despite our search and devotion, they are no longer with us.
As the song progresses, Gréco highlights that time erodes even the most beautiful memories. The things we once cherished the most, such as the memories of loved ones, eventually take on a different appearance, transforming into something unrecognizable. The lyrics "Mêm' les plus chouette's souv'nirs ça t'a un' de ces gueul's" mean that even the most beautiful memories take on an ugly appearance over time. As the song draws to a close, the lyrics become more introspective, focusing on the singer's sense of loneliness and disillusionment. It is clear that with time, we lose much more than just the people in our lives; we lose our passion, our fervor, and our joy.
