Glam Glitz Guts & Gore
KMFDM Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look out the window watch it on tv
Everyone everywhere wants celebrity
Blown up in style
Social media star
Selfie-snapping egoïst with a million-dollar smile
Complacent and fat
Gelded and pliant
Comfortably stunned
Absolutely reliant
Glam glitz guts and gore
A cocktail of bliss mixed with fear
Keep em pacified
Let em eat cake
Procreate and die
History on repeat
Worn over time
Pestilence and plague square up for headlines
Bigger better faster more
United in fraudulence
Divvying up the spoils of war
Glam glitz guts and gore
Keep em on their toes
Coming back for more
Glam glitz guts and gore
Get em good and high
Well trained and tame
Of sound heart and mind
In a picturesque place
Where the blind lead the blind
Liberties and justice unravelling like twine
Photographed prejudice abuse and hate crime
Fast food fast lane have it your way
Gorgeously grotesque
All feeding on fame

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of KMFDM's song "Glam Glitz Guts & Gore" depict a society obsessed with celebrity culture and willing to conform to the norms set by it. The song highlights the shallow nature of social media stars and selfie-snapping egoïsts who are more interested in being famous than being valuable to the world. The lyrics mention the complacency and fatness of people, who are gelded and pliant, living in a state of absolute reliance on the glam, glitz, guts and gore culture of society. The cocktail of bliss mixed with fear is what keeps the masses pacified and satisfied with living their mundane lives.

The song also touches on the issue of history repeating itself, as humanity continues to repeat its mistakes even in the face of pestilence and plague. The society is united in fraudulence, and everyone wants a share of the spoils of war, divvying up resources while ignoring the real issues that plague the world. The mass media feeds people with a constant diet of glam, glitz, guts, and gore, which keeps them entertained and coming back for more. The song highlights how this cycle of apathy and consumption is slowly unraveling the liberties and justice of this world, leading to a society where prejudice, abuse, and hate crime are photographed and normalized.

It's just great to see Sascha and Lucia pull off an album like this out of nowhere. Total State Machine, Fake News, and this one all hit really hard. I haven't been around for the full 33 years, but since XTORT, it's nice to see three side-busting tracks on one album. I like Lucia's tracks for what they are usually (Never Say Never, and Bait and Switch were fucking awesome). But yeah, this album is up there with Nihil, WWIII, and Tohuvabohu in my book.

The Dudest

But dude I love XTORT and all but it's not the ONLY one that has multiple great songs in it
"Symbols" for example had: Megalomaniac, Stray Bullet, Waste, Anarchy, and Down and Out
Thats 4! That kicked absolute ass

Chiefof16 yeah XTORT got me hooked on KMFDM back in '96 before I left for Air Force BMT

KMFDM STILL TEARING IT UP!

Arp Laszlo

Damn - did not know they got back on track, this lives up to their 90s heyday.

::Feukka::

boomed this at full volume coming down my street one day. people were moving out of the street, i was ripping a cigar and smirking hand on the top of the wheel like a fucking boss. then i went inside and drank myself to sleep.

The accountant's clients get a warning of massive withdrawals as V and Jackie wire millions of Eddies (currency in Cyberypunk 2077) into their own accounts, so the corporates send hitmen to merc them, then this song starts to play as they get into a sick car chase.
