The group's earliest incarnation included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom left and rejoined the group several times over its history. The trio recorded the band's earliest albums in Germany before Konietzko and Esch moved to the United States, where they found much greater success with seminal industrial record label Wax Trax!. German guitarist Günter Schulz joined in 1990; both he and Esch continued with the band until KMFDM broke up in 1999. Konietzko resurrected KMFDM in 2002 (Esch and Schulz declined to rejoin) on Metropolis Records, and by 2005 he had assembled a consistent line-up that included American singer Lucia Cifarelli, British guitarists Jules Hodgson and Steve White, and British drummer Andy Selway. Konietzko and Cifarelli moved back to Germany in 2007, while the rest of band stayed in the U.S. In addition to these core members, dozens of other musicians have worked with the group across its nineteen studio albums and two dozen singles, with sales totaling in excess of two million records worldwide.
Critics consider KMFDM to be one of the first bands to bring industrial music to mainstream audiences, though Konietzko refers to the band's music as "The Ultra-Heavy Beat". The band incorporates heavy metal guitar riffs, electronic music, samples, and both male and female vocals in its music, which encompasses a variety of styles including industrial rock and electronic body music (EBM). The band is fiercely political, with many of its lyrics taking stands against violence, war, and oppression. KMFDM normally tours at least once after every major release, and band members are known for their accessibility to and interaction with fans, both online and at concerts. Members, singly or working together and with other musicians, have recorded under many other names, primarily Watts' PIG, Konietzko's Excessive Force, and Esch and Schulz's Slick Idiot.

Save Me
KMFDM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The silver-lining always starts to fade
And what you don't know is that you don't know the truth anymore
Now you try sleeping in the bed you have made
The feeling is gone and the circle is broken
Like water under a burning bridge
A million words but nothing is spoken
Save me
I can't find my way home
The grace I've fallen from
The only truth I've ever known
So when you tell me what you tell me
I can't take it anymore
The same old story goes around and around
You think that if you speak a little louder than you did before
The point you make might somehow stick around
If empathy is no more than a token
I cry a river in the pouring rain
The princess still sleeps but she will be woken
Her kiss of love is killing me
Save me
I can't find my way home
The ground I'm walking on
The only friend I've ever known
Mother father
The battle I fight is so far no one
No one but myself
Brother Sister
The devil inside is my own now
There's no way you could understand
You don't understand…
Save me
I can't find my way home
Save me
Mother father
The tears that you cry are for no one
No one but yourself
Brother Sister
I travel this road on my own now
There's no way you could understand
Save me
I can't find my way home
The grace I've fallen from
The only truth I've ever known
Save me
I can't find my way home
The ground I'm walking on
The only friend I've ever known
The lyrics to KMFDM's song "Save Me" express feelings of confusion, desperation, and isolation. The song begins by acknowledging the difficulty of finding what one is looking for, with the silver-lining always fading. The singer realizes they no longer know the truth, which creates unease as they try to sleep in the bed they have made. The circle is broken, and the feeling is gone. A million words are said, but nothing is communicated. The silence is deafening, replaced by fear.
The chorus of "Save Me" pleads for salvation from the confusion and brokenness that the singer is experiencing. The grace that they have fallen from is the only truth they have ever known. The verse that follows expresses frustration with someone who is speaking in circles, repeating the same old story. The singer is crying a river, feeling the weight of the situation, but the empathy they desire seems only to be a token. The princess still sleeps, but the singer wants to be woken up by a kiss of love.
In the second chorus, the singer turns to their family, acknowledging the battle they fight is their own. No one understands the devil inside them, and they feel alone in their struggles. The final chorus repeats the plea for help to find their way home, the ground they're walking on, and the only friend they've ever known.
Overall, "Save Me" is a call for help from someone who feels lost and disconnected from those around them. The lyrics express a desire for empathy and understanding, but also a recognition that the battle is ultimately the singer's alone.

I found it incredibly bizarre when I went to a KMFDM show and was talking with some of the fans afterwards, I mentioned this song was one of my faves. Those 3 guys were all big industrial/ KMFDM fanboys and none had even heard of this song Weird!
