She cant reach him, just as he didn't reach her on the bridge as she jump in the river to get her book back. The meaning is that they couldn't truly know each other until the scene he grab her tightly in the most sensitive scene in the movie.

Arucon

its no masterpiece. If u read the manga u will understand.

Ak Verified nah ive seen better. Not within masterpiece territory. The missing parts of the mangas fine but the way they executed it was wrong. Mangas a masterpiece. The movie is a s tier. its just like shinkai films. They never quite hit the mark. Shinkai admits it himself in his interviews.

Ak Verified eh i watched the movie first. Still good but not masterpiece. Then someone told me the manga is a masterpiece. It read it and it was. AOT has masterpiece level character writing in eren. Code geass had one of the best endings in all of anime. Steins gate has all around stellar character writing cast plot and world building. Silent voice cant actually contend with masterpiece tier anime. I have an objective take on most anime i watch. No bias. U have to be critical to call something a masterpiece. I dont get your last statement.
