Fowler put together a country band in 1998 and began playing Tuesday nights at Babe's on Sixth Street in Austin. Within two years, he'd begun recording albums and struck big with his self-released Beer, Bait and Ammo (2000). The album sold around 30,000 copies in the Texas area and garnered an impressive amount of airplay, particularly for the album's title track. The song became somewhat of a Texas anthem; Mark Chesnutt made the song part of his live show, and Sammy Kershaw recorded it. Fowler returned in 2002 with his third album, High on the Hog, and boasted some impressive guests, including Willie Nelson and David Lee Garza.
Dont Touch My Willie

In a low-cut dress with a bottle of wine
She said this will be a night you won't forget
She poured us some drinks to get us into the mood
I reached for the lights, she reached for my tunes
She pulled out that Red Headed Stranger, I stood up and said
I don't know you that well
Help yourself to some Haggard or some Jones
Hell, or anybody else
I don't know what you heard
I ain't that kind of guy
Yeah so don't touch my Willie,
We'll get a long just fine
She said she never met a man like me in her life
Who wouldn't share his Willie on the very first night
I said it's nothing personal, don't take it so hard
I don't pull out my Willie for just anyone
There's a lot of other records that you can choose from
So let me make myself clear before you go too far
Don't touch my Willie
I don't know you that well
Help yourself to some Haggard or some Jones
Hell, or anybody else
I don't know what you heard
I ain't that kind of guy
Yeah so don't touch my Willie,
We'll get a long just fine
Keep your hands off my Willie,
We'll get along just fine
The song "Don't Touch My Willie" by Kevin Fowler tells a humorous story about a woman who visits the singer's home, intending to have a memorable evening. The woman arrives wearing a revealing dress and brings a bottle of wine to set the mood. However, when the singer tries to put on some music, she reaches for his Willie Nelson album. The singer, feeling protective of his music collection, stands up and firmly tells her not to touch his Willie.
The lyrics play on a double entendre, as "Willie" refers to both the singer's personal music collection, specifically the Willie Nelson album, as well as his private parts. The singer expresses that he doesn't know the woman well enough for her to handle either. He suggests that she can enjoy other artists like Merle Haggard or George Jones, but his "Willie" is off limits.
The song's lyrics highlight the singer's sense of personal boundaries and the importance he places on his personal possessions. The humorous tone and clever wordplay provide a lighthearted and entertaining story about a situation that many listeners can relate to.
