Follies Theme Song
Key Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
AK: Another one with the golden tone voice and then your fantasy
JW: Another bill from a killer turned a thrill into a tragedy
CHORUS:
A door left open
A woman walking by
A drop in the water
A phone on the table
A man on your side
Someone that you think that you can trust is just
Another way to die
JW: Another tricky little gun giving solace to the
one that will never see the sunshine
AK: Another inch of your life sacrificed for your brother
in the nick of time
JW: Another dirty money, heaven sent honey turning on a dime
[CHORUS]
It?s just another way to?
Hey?
It?s just another way to?
You?ve got to?.
JW: Another girl with her finger on the world singing
do what you wanna hear
AK: Another gun thrown down and surrendered took away your fear
JW & AK: Another man that stands right behind you looking in the mirror
[CHORUS]
It?s just another way?
Suit ?em up, bang bang!
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
The lyrics of Key's song "Follies Theme Song" depict a dark and cynical view of the world, focusing on themes of betrayal, deceit, and violence. The song opens with a reference to a skilled and lethal individual working for a mysterious "Her Majesty," hinting at a secret agent or assassin. The mention of a "slick trigger finger" and a "golden tone voice" suggests a sense of danger and allure, with the idea of a fantasy turning into a tragic reality. This sets the tone for the rest of the song, where characters are driven by their own agendas and desires, often leading to destructive consequences.
The chorus brings in a series of evocative images that underscore the themes of trust and betrayal. The imagery of a door left open, a woman walking by, a drop in the water, and a look in the eye all point to moments of vulnerability and potential danger. The idea of someone you trust turning out to be a threat is emphasized in the line "Someone that you think that you can trust is just another way to die," driving home the notion that appearances can be deceiving and that even the closest relationships can be treacherous.
The verses continue to explore this theme of deception and sacrifice, with references to guns, money, and power dynamics. The mention of a "tricky little gun" providing false comfort, a life sacrificed for a loved one, and dirty money leading to betrayal all paint a picture of a world where loyalty is fragile and personal gain often comes at a high cost. This theme is further reinforced by the repetition of the phrase "Another way to die," suggesting that death, whether literal or metaphorical, is a constant presence in this harsh reality.
The song concludes with a sense of resignation and inevitability, as the singers acknowledge the cycle of violence and deception that surrounds them. The repeated refrain of "It's just another way to..." followed by the abrupt exclamation "Suit 'em up, bang bang! Bang, bang, bang, bang" serves as a chilling reminder of the brutal nature of this world, where conflict and betrayal are ubiquitous. Overall, the lyrics of 'Follies Theme Song' paint a bleak and cautionary picture of a world where trust is a rare commodity and survival often comes at a steep price.
