Wells' success in the 1950s and 1960s was so enormous that she still ranks as the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of the Billboard country charts according to historian Joel Whitburn's book "The Top 40 Country Hits", behind Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker. Wells was the third country music artist, behind Roy Acuff and Hank Williams, to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 as well as being the seventh woman and first Caucasian woman to receive the honor. In 1976, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

I′ve tried for a long long time
But couldn't get you off my mind
So I decided
Take a little ride
Stop bye say hi
I didn′t come here to write a book
Or promise the stars up in the sky
I come here to tell you
I wanna tell you
I'm gonna love you till the day I die I remember when the day we met
My heart skipped a beat
And all through the years
You kept me right on my feets
Noooo I can't climb a mountain
And I can′t fly
No superman am II just wanna tell you
I wanna tell you
I′m gonna love you till the day I die Lovin' you and no mistake me
Its the way it′s supposed to be'Cause you stood there
Through all my ups and downs
Like an angel watchin′ over me
No I can't swim
And I can′t fly
To get to you I tried
Just to tell you
I wanna tell you
I'm gonna love you till the day I die Lovin' you and no mistake me
Its the way it′s supposed to be′Cause you stood there
Through all my ups and downs
Like an angel watchin' over me
And after all′s days I've done
You′re still with me the only one
And when I was a lonely man
You took my hands when I cried
You dried my eyes
No I didn't wave a flag
Or save the country
Didn′t win a Nobel Peace Prize
I just wanna tell you
I wanna tell you
I'm gonna love you till the day I die
