Wells' success in the 1950s and 1960s was so enormous that she still ranks as the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of the Billboard country charts according to historian Joel Whitburn's book "The Top 40 Country Hits", behind Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker. Wells was the third country music artist, behind Roy Acuff and Hank Williams, to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 as well as being the seventh woman and first Caucasian woman to receive the honor. In 1976, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
My Cold Cold Heart
Kitty Wells Lyrics

I seek for peace but don’t know how
I go to bed but only weep
My cold, cold heart won’t let me sleep
Your lonesome voice that seems to say
Your cold, cold heart will melt someday
My tears pour down like fallin' rain
Perhaps someday beyond the blue
We’ll meet sweetheart and live anew
Where cold, cold hearts can’t enter in
We’ll laugh and love, sweetheart, again
My cold, cold heart is melted now
My once proud head now I humbly bow
Your lonely face in dreams I see
My cold, cold heart has told on me
These lyrics are an expression of heartbreak and the deep pain that comes with it. The singer's heart is cold and unfeeling, making her unable to find peace or rest. Even when she goes to bed, she cannot find solace and spends her nights crying for her lost lover.
The singer recalls her lover's words that one day her heart would melt, but this seems impossible to her. She is consumed by her pain and her thoughts of her lost love. She dreams of a future where she can live without the pain of her cold heart, where she can laugh and love again.
