Among his songwriting credits are the songs "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which were hits for other artists.
In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in forming the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, and formed a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the Nashville music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing. In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. As an actor, he is known for his roles in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Blume in Love (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), A Star Is Born (1976) (which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor), Convoy (1978), Heaven's Gate (1980) and Blade (1998).
Kristofferson has said that he would like the first three lines of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" on his tombstone:
Like a bird on the wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free

Kris Kristofferson Lyrics
Damn the way you always bring me down
Can't you say a single thing that's true
You could take a perfect day and turn it right around
I'm afraid there ain't no way to please you
It's okay, 'cause it don't matter now
Go your way and I'll go my way too
Find some new somebodies who you'd rather be around
Maybe they can see their way to please you
Darlin', good love shouldn't feel so bad
This fighting might feel righteous, but it's wrong
We just make each other mad and lonesome
So tell me why the hell we tried so long
One more line and I'll be down the road
Do me one more dirty, girl I'm gone
Ain't it you who used to say, life's too short to live this way
Baby, I believe that life's too long
Darlin', good love shouldn't feel so bad
This fighting might feel righteous, but it's wrong
We just make each other mad and lonesome
So tell me why the hell we tried so long
Can't you say a single thing that's true
You could take a perfect day and turn it right around
I'm afraid there ain't no way to please you
It's okay, 'cause it don't matter now

Can't get enough of Kris Kristofferson best song writer of all time
L Strusowski
Wow! Kris, I never heard this song before, but don’t go to movies since 30 yrs ago. And somehow I missed this one and maybe a couple of others! This is spectacular, at least as good as any singer ever! I’m so glad I found it tonight. It’s goin*g on my music list of over 10,000 songs under Your name, on iPad with the rest of your God given talent songs, by your own songs, or ones written by others. You have been so blessed and have blessed us all so much. I hope you are really enjoying yourself. But, as a human, I can’t help wishing for just one more from you. What a beautiful person you are! God Bless Your Soul! We really miss you, as we do all the other greats. This is written from the bottom of my heart. I wish you’d done some Christian albums. But, I’m just gonna say Thank You and Thanks for the Memories! I will never forget! I just turned 70, and Thank God above for the music. It is my life after my family and my dog family. I’m sending a Big Hug and Love to you right now. I hope you feel it! Enjoy yourself now, okay? Okay! 🕊♥️🙏🏻✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🕊

I'd love to see a video to this... Gives me the same emotions as Johnny Cashs' version of Hurt... LOVE IT. Of course, KK is a genius writer...

Yes he is. This, however, was written by John Mellencamp.

I was at 2 GBDC shows, the premiere in Atlanta and a stripped down version with Gina Gershon in Toronto. While the tie-in album is good, a cast album of these songs would be amazing.
