Losing Game

You got me down
Hard to the ground
Or flying around
You call me back
Back to the start
Another labyrinth
Why do we play this losing game
For every step ahead
Is a wall and I'm dead
How do you make me lose my head
I can't afford to lose another bet
We start to fight
I put up my palms
Some hands are swift and sleight
And deceptive like dreams
And words like screams
That you let go
You take scissors to the cards
And the hand I won't show
Why do we play this losing game
For every step ahead
Is a wall and I'm dead
How do you make me lose my head
I can't afford to lose another bet
Let in my dear
Did you lose your way
Remember the rules of the game that we play
You got me up
You got me down
Hard to the ground
Or flying around
Why do we play this losing game
For every step ahead
Is a wall and I'm dead
How do you make me lose my head
I can't afford to lose another bet
Why do we play this losing game
For every step ahead
Is a wall and I'm dead
How do you make me lose my head
The lyrics of La Santa Cecilia's song "Losing Game" depict a tumultuous and challenging relationship. The singer is caught in a cycle of ups and downs, feeling both elated and devastated by their partner's actions. The lyric "You got me up, you got me down, hard to the ground or flying around" showcases the emotional rollercoaster experienced in this relationship.
The singer is repeatedly drawn back to their partner, despite knowing that it will lead to another labyrinth where they become lost. The metaphor of a labyrinth symbolizes the confusion and complexity of their relationship. The line "Why do we play this losing game, for every step ahead is a wall and I'm dead" reflects the frustration felt by the singer, as no matter how much progress they make, it seems to always result in setbacks.
The lyrics also highlight the manipulative nature of the partner, with references to sleight of hand and dreams as deceptive as words like screams. The line "You take scissors to the cards and the hand I won't show" suggests that the partner is willing to cut through any progress or accomplishment made by the singer, leaving them vulnerable and exposed.
Overall, the lyrics of "Losing Game" convey the constant struggle and confusion in a toxic relationship. The singer questions why they continue to participate in this game where they are consistently losing, unable to afford another emotional blow.
