In her native town of Rosario, Sinaloa, Beltrán completed her secretarial studies while she participated in many singing competitions. She then moved to Mexico City where she was discovered while working at the radio station XEW, and never went back to Rosario again.
She married Alfredo Leal, a matador and film actor, and with him had two children: María Elena Leal, who is also a singer, and José Leal. She entered the world of film in 1954 starring in El tesoro de la muerte. After participating in dozens of films, most of them musicals, she obtained a role in the telenovela Mi rival with Saby Kamalich. In 1976 and 1984 she hosted the musical shows Noches tapatías and El estudio de Lola Beltrán respectively.
Beltrán is still considered with Lucha Reyes the most successful ranchera-music singer of all time. She was the first ranchera singer to perform at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. She also performed at the Olympia music hall in Paris, the Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow and the Conservatory of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in the former Soviet Union.
Soon after recording Disco del Siglo with Lucha Villa and Amalia Mendoza "La Tariácuri" (produced by Juan Gabriel) she died of a massive pulmonary embolism at the Ángeles hospital of Mexico City.

Si te es posible dedicalo a mi,
A cambio de mi vida entera y
Lo que me queda y que te ofrezco yo,
Atiende preferentemente a toda
Y otra vez te llamen volvere a decir,
El tiempo que te quede libre
Si te es posible dedicalo a mi
El tiempo que te que libre
Si te es posible dedicalo a mi
No importa que sean dos minutos o
Si es uno solo yo seré feliz
Con tal de que vivamos juntos
Lo mejor de todo dedicalo a mi,
Y luego cuando te reclamen y
Otra vez te llamen volvere a decir
El tiempo que te quede libre
Si te es posible dedicalo a mi
El tiempo que te quede libre
Si te es posible dedicalo a mi.
In Lola Beltrán's song El Tiempo Que Te Quede Libre, the singer is asking her lover to dedicate any free time he may have to her. She offers her entire life and whatever time she has left as a gift that he can have whenever he is available to her. She asks him to prioritize his time with her over all the other people who ask for his love. The singer is content with just a few minutes of his time, as long as they can live together.
The song is about devotion and the sacrifices we make for love. The lyrics suggest a sense of urgency and desperation that the singer feels towards her lover. She is willing to wait for him and makes it clear to him that she expects him to return to her. She warns him that if he doesn't have time for her, she will be forced to remind him of the importance of spending time with her.
Overall, the song is a plea from a woman who is deeply in love and wants to be acknowledged and appreciated by her lover. It is a beautiful and emotional ballad that expresses the depth of the singer's love.
