In her native town of Rosario, Sinaloa, Beltrán completed her secretarial studies while she participated in many singing competitions. She then moved to Mexico City where she was discovered while working at the radio station XEW, and never went back to Rosario again.
She married Alfredo Leal, a matador and film actor, and with him had two children: María Elena Leal, who is also a singer, and José Leal. She entered the world of film in 1954 starring in El tesoro de la muerte. After participating in dozens of films, most of them musicals, she obtained a role in the telenovela Mi rival with Saby Kamalich. In 1976 and 1984 she hosted the musical shows Noches tapatías and El estudio de Lola Beltrán respectively.
Beltrán is still considered with Lucha Reyes the most successful ranchera-music singer of all time. She was the first ranchera singer to perform at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. She also performed at the Olympia music hall in Paris, the Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow and the Conservatory of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in the former Soviet Union.
Soon after recording Disco del Siglo with Lucha Villa and Amalia Mendoza "La Tariácuri" (produced by Juan Gabriel) she died of a massive pulmonary embolism at the Ángeles hospital of Mexico City.

De mí te te has olvidado
Y sin embargo yo
Te seguiré esperando
No me he querido ir
Para ver si algún día
Que tú quieras volver
Por eso aún estoy
En el lugar de siempre
En la misma ciudad
Y con la misma gente
Para que tú al volver
No encuentres nada extraño
Y sea como ayer
Y nunca más dejarnos
Probablemente estoy
Pidiendo demasiado
Se me olvidaba que
Ya habíamos terminado
Que nunca volverás
Que nunca me quisiste
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que sólo yo te quise
Por eso aún estoy
En el lugar de siempre
En la misma ciudad
Y con la misma gente
Para que tú al volver
No encuentres nada extraño
Y sea como ayer
Y nunca más dejarnos
Probablemente estoy
Pidiendo demasiado
Se me olvidaba
Que habíamos terminado
Que nunca volverás
Que nunca me quisiste
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que sólo yo te quise
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que sólo yo te quise
Se me olvidó otra vez
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que sólo yo te quise
Se me olvidó otra vez
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que sólo yo te quise
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que nunca volverás
Que nunca me quisiste
Se me olvidaba
Que ya habíamos terminado
Que nunca volverás
Que nunca me quisiste
Se me olvidó otra vez
Que sólo yo te quise
The lyrics of "Se Me Olvido Otra Vez" by Lola Beltrán explore the idea of unrequited love and the pain that one feels when they are left waiting for someone who has forgotten about them. The song opens with the singer acknowledging that the person they have been waiting for has likely forgotten about them, but despite this realization, they continue to wait for them. The singer explains that they have not left, hoping that someday the person will return and find them still waiting.
The chorus repeats the theme of the singer waiting for their lover to return, but then the ending of the song takes a nostalgic turn. The singer admits that they forgot that the relationship had ended and that their love was not returned. The confusion and pain that the singer feels resonate through the lyrics. They assert that they are still waiting in the same place they always were, wishing things could be the way they once were.
Overall, the song's lyrics are a poignant expression of a love that is unrequited, and the singer's voice adds an emotional depth that is visually evocative.
