Trials
London Grammar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And would you want me standing in the same light?
I wasn't wary of trouble when it was under my skin
They never made me aware of all of those things
And they were your words so don't leave them on their own
You should stand by them, build them a throne
And if you want me, then have me maybe
I will build you the happiest home
When I'm with you I'm not alone
I still believe I might not be enough
Hey, yeah, hey, trials they make you what you are
But it goes against the grain
All of these things I've seen, you're not
And it is about the ordinary life
But would you want me standing in the same light?
Well I wasn't wary of trouble when it's under my skin
They never made me aware of all of those things
And if you want me, so don't leave them on their own
You should stand by them, build them a throne
And if you want me, then have me maybe
I will build you the happiest home
When I'm with you I'm not alone
I still believe I might not be enough
Hey, yeah, hey, trials they make you what you are
Does it goes against the grain?
All of these things I've seen, you're not
When I'm with you I'm not alone
I still believe that I might not be enough
Trails they make you what you are
And it goes against the grain
All of these things I've seen, you're not
The lyrics of London Grammar's "Trials" seem to be about the struggles and challenges that come with life, but also the importance of standing by one's experiences and beliefs. The opening lines suggest that behind all the chaos and challenges of life, there is something ordinary and basic that remains. The singer of the song seems to be questioning whether their partner would still want to be with them if they were to see them in the same light as everyone else. They also mention how they were not aware of the trouble that was under their skin until it became too much to bear. However, they seem to be urging their partner to stand by their beliefs and build a throne for themselves, and if they want the singer to be with them, they should do the same.
The chorus of the song seems to highlight the transformative nature of trials and how they shape who we are today. The singer seems to be suggesting that the trials they have faced have made them who they are, but it goes against the grain of society. They express their belief that their partner is not like everyone else they have seen before and that they are unique in their own way.
Overall, the lyrics of "Trials" seem to be about the importance of staying true to oneself, standing by one's beliefs, and accepting the transformative nature of trials.
