When We Were Young
London Grammar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Buzzing in your head
I know there's a heartbeat
Tripping in your step, tripping in your step
Glad I got my eardrums
Hurting and I can, hurting and I can
See this working out
Exactly how I plan
Fully like a mess
I know that my voice is
Buzzing in your head, buzzing in your head
You know I want this, honey
And it is better than money
And when I'm feeling weak
Think back to times when we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
I can feel your hands they're
Pulling at my dress
Living in a lie
Only memories are left
I know there's a heartbeat
Tripping in your step
I know there's a voice that's
Buzzing in your head, buzzing in your head
You know I want this, honey
And it is better than money
And when I'm feeling weak
Think back to times when we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
I know there's a voice that's
Buzzing in your head
When we were young
I know there's a heartbeat
Tripping in your step, tripping in your step
When we were young
Glad I got my eardrums
Hurting and I can
When we were young
The song "When We Were Young" by London Grammar talks about nostalgia and how we should "think back to times when we were young" when feeling weak. The lyrics use imagery such as "buzzing in your head" and "tripping in your step" to describe the emotions and memories that flood back when we think about our past. The singer also mentions a desire for something that is "better than money" - perhaps a reference to the priceless value of cherished memories.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "when we were young" multiple times, emphasizing the longing for the past that is present throughout the song. The lyrics also mention the physical feeling of reminiscing, such as feeling hands pulling at a dress and the pain in eardrums from hearing the buzzing of memories.
Overall, "When We Were Young" is a powerful ode to the past and the way our memories shape our present experiences. It acknowledges the pain of nostalgia but also recognizes the beauty in remembering and cherishing those moments.
