The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Debbie Harry, Mick Jones, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs Lyrics

Y ayer lo vi caer frente a mí
Con la gota de agua se secó
Y el cielo oscureció para los dos
Fue el amor
Nuestro único intento
Se nubló
Vos y yo
Dos hermanos errantes
Fue el amor
Sólo en ese momento
El collar de perlas se rompió
Rodaron por el piso hasta los dos
Una para mí, y otra para vos
Son nuestros amuletos del amor
Nuestro único intento
Se nubló
Fuimos hojas al viento
Vos y yo
Dos hermanos errantes
Fue el amor
Sólo en ese momento
Hoy me acordé
Juntos en la ruta
Andando fuerte
Y todo por amor
Vos y yo
Fue el amor
Vos y yo
Nuestro único intento
Fuimos hojas al viento
Somos luces brillantes
Sólo en ese momento
The lyrics of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs's song "Canción de Solo para Juan" convey a sense of the inevitability of endings and the transient nature of love. The singer expresses that they always knew the end existed, and they finally witnessed it falling in front of them. The symbolism of a drop of water drying up and the sky darkening suggests the sudden and irreversible nature of the end.
The song talks about love being their only attempt at something, but it became clouded and they became like leaves in the wind, wandering aimlessly. The use of "brothers" suggests a deep connection between the two individuals, but ultimately, their love was only present in that moment.
The lyrics continue to describe how a pearl necklace broke, symbolizing the loss and scattering of their love. Each pearl represents a piece of their amulets of love, with one for the singer and one for the other person. This emphasizes the shared nature of their love and how they now possess a fragmented and incomplete symbol of their past connection.
The final verses reflect on the memories of being together on the road, walking strong due to love. The repetition of "you and me" reinforces the importance of their shared experience and highlights the impact love had on their lives. The song ends with the realization that their attempt at love turned into fleeting moments, like shining lights only present in that specific moment.

¡Grandes!
