The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Debbie Harry, Mick Jones, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
Mamá
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Que guardabas de mamá
Cayeron al mar
Me quedé encerrado
En una bola de cristal
No pude escapar
Me ponen a girar
Libertad
Llega la libertad
No me importa más
Estoy encerrado
En una bola de cristal
No puedo escapar
Brillos
Libertad, libertad
Libertad
Llega la libertad
Juan, te espero aquí
Juan, te espero aquí
No me importa más
The lyrics to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs's song "Mamá" depict a sense of confinement and longing for freedom. The opening lines talk about all the adornments that were kept from the singer's mother, falling into the sea, which can symbolize the loss or absence of something cherished and significant. The next lines describe the singer being trapped inside a glass bubble, unable to escape. The mention of "brillos" (shininess or sparkle) implies that the confinement is suffocating and overwhelming, as the sparkles make the singer spin.
The chorus repeats the word "libertad" (freedom) several times, emphasizing the desire for liberation from the entrapment. The repeated phrase "No me importa más" (I don't care anymore) reflects a state of resignation or defiance towards the situation. The final lines mention someone named Juan, possibly indicating a plea for assistance or companionship in breaking free from the glass bubble.
Overall, the lyrics of "Mamá" convey feelings of being trapped, longing for freedom, and experiencing a sense of confinement that is suffocating and overwhelming.
