Gravity
Maaya Sakamoto (坂本真綾) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Been there and gone tomorrow
Without saying goodbye to yesterday
Are the memories I hold still valid?
Or have the tears deluded them?
Maybe this time tomorrow
The rain will cease to follow
Something somewhere out there keeps calling
Am I going home?
Will I hear someone singing solace to the silent moon?
Zero gravity, what's it like?
Am I alone?
Is somebody there beyond these heavy aching feet
Still the road keeps on telling me to go on
Something is pulling me
I feel the gravity of it all
The song Gravity by Maaya Sakamoto expresses the sense of displacement and longing of an individual who has been wandering for a long time, trying to find a place to call home. The lyrics convey the notion of uncertainty and the fear of being alone in a world that seems to be moving too fast, leaving behind past memories and experiences that may or may not be still relevant. The melancholic tone of the song suggests a deep longing for solace and comfort, and the question whether there is anyone out there who shares the same feelings and experiences.
The lyrics of this song evoke the idea of floating in space, both physically and emotionally. The title “Gravity” is a metaphor for the pull that a person feels for a place or a person they miss, but also for the sense of being adrift and not knowing where to go. The imagery of rain and mist fading away into another day suggests a fleeting sense of hope that things might get better, but also implies the transience of life itself. The final lines of the song suggest a determination to keep moving forward despite the odds, propelled by an unknown force that keeps pulling the singer towards an uncertain future.
