Why Madonna isn't inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame yet is beyond me. This song is a poem she wrote about her mother, a loss that left a gaping hole, a void and ache that won't ever heal. She is a wonderful songwriter.

This song is very striking. Specially the musical use of the unanswered telephone tone at the beginning. That's a common association when you have lost a beloved person. You cannot speak to that person anymore. It happened to me recently when my mother died. I used to call at her mobile even knowing that she was dead and was not going to answer. I remember hearing the tones for minutes. Somehow it is a way to make you believe that she is gone forever and nothing will bring her back. I miss you so much dear mummy. There's nothing worse than losing your mother....
