Mantovani was born in Venice, Italy and his father was the concertmaster of La Scala orchestra under Arturo Toscanini. His family moved to England in 1912, where he studied at Trinity College of Music in London. After graduation, he formed his own orchestra, which played in and around Birmingham. By the time World War II broke out, his orchestra was one of the most popular in England, both on the BBC and in live performances.

I used to say
A game I thought I'd never play
"Romance is a game for fools"
I said and grinned
Then you passed by
And here am I
Throwing caution to the wind
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you, my love, my heart above my head.
Though I see the danger there
If there's a chance for me, then I don't care
Mm-mm-mm-mm
Fools rush in where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in
Fools rush in where wise men never, never, never go
Eh, but wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
Ah, when we met, girl, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in
Just open up your heart and let this fool rush on in
Just open up your heart because I-I-I-I-I-I-I am coming in
Open up your heart and let this fool rush in!!
The song "Fools Rush In" by Mantovani & His Orchestra revolves around the theme of love and how it can turn even the wisest of men into fools. The lyrics begin with the singer saying that he used to believe that romance is a game for fools and that he would never play it. However, when he meets the person he loves, he throws caution to the wind, showing that he has become a fool in love.
The chorus of the song goes on to explain that fools rush in where angels fear to tread. The singer acknowledges that the danger of falling in love is there, but he doesn't care about the risks. He declares that he will go to his love with his heart above his head, showing almost reckless abandon.
The song also highlights the difference between wise men and fools. Wise men are never supposed to fall in love, and thus, they never rush in. But when the singer meets his love interest, he feels his life begin, indicating that he is willing to take the risk and let this fool rush in. Overall, the song's lyrics convey how love can make even the smartest of people act like fools and take risks that they usually wouldn't.
