The song "Les divorcés" by Marc Lavoine portrays the aftermath of a divorce and the emotions experienced by the couple involved. The lyrics can be divided into four main sections.
In the first section, the singer suggests that in the early stages of the divorce, they should give their child to the other partner's parents temporarily. This implies a need for both parties to sort out their individual issues before fully addressing their responsibilities as parents.
The second section highlights the singer's mixed feelings about divorcing. They express that it feels strange to separate, but they accept that it is necessary and are willing to adapt to the new situation.
The third section speaks about the legal proceedings and the role of the singer's lawyer. The lawyer appears to be urging the singer to say negative things about their ex-partner, making it clear that they do not find any excuses or justification for their actions. As a result, the singer feels compelled to accuse their ex-partner, leading to a strained relationship.
The fourth section discusses the future arrangements between the couple. The singer suggests that the ex-partner keeps the apartment and the singer will visit occasionally, especially when their child doesn't have school. They also mention that they will take their child, Stéphanie, out for afternoons because the child has always looked up to them.
The repeated chorus emphasizes that even if the relationship is over, life goes on despite the challenges faced. The singer acknowledges that the initial phase of the divorce was difficult and filled with anger, but they have moved on and found happiness in their own lives.
Overall, the song portrays the complexities of divorce and the emotions that come with it. It explores the need for acceptance, understanding, and moving forward, as the couple navigates their lives separately while still maintaining a connection for the sake of their child.
