Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Mia Martini Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please
He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola
He say I know you, you know me
Come together right now over me
He bag production he got walrus gumboot
He got ono sideboard he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me
He roller-coaster he got early warning
He got muddy water he one mojo filter
He say one and one and one is three
Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me
The lyrics of Mia Martini's song "Come Together" speak about a character who seems to be described in fragments of strange and surreal details. The character is first introduced as "old flattop" who moves slowly and intentionally grooves to his own rhythm, he is refereed to as a "holy roller" which means he is religious and devout. The next verse talks about how he is different and fearless, as he has long hair while wearing no shoes; he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, and just does as he pleases. Additionally, he's described as having monkey-like fingers that shoot soda.
In the next part of the song, the character is depicted as a wealthy person who owns walrus gumboots and an Ono sideboard. Though he seems to be successful, there is also something disturbing and unsettling about him. He is described as having some kind of "disease" that can be felt when someone sits on his armchair. The song later references the themes of love, peace and unity by asking people to come together "right now" over the character. The song encourages people to look beyond the physical differences among them and pay attention to the common traits that they share.

Incredibile come una cantante di canzoni prevalentemente melodiche potesse cantare meravigliosamente una canzone rock dei Beatles con arrangiamenti R.B
