Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Ossessioni
Mia Martini Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Santi,
Le armi nel vento, gli stupidi fanti
Con gli occhi nel sole diventano
ciechi
No no no no no
Mi lasci qui uomo mio, ma resta in
nome di Dio
No no no no no
Sul vecchio Gange laverò il
peccato mio con te
Non ha senso stare soli
No no no no no
Sette figli, Madonna, due sporche
lenzuola,
l’orgoglio di donna ma lotta da
sola
con lupi affamati vorrebbe fuggire
No no no no no
La grancassa poi il cieco suonerà
La porta vi aprirà, padroni e pecore
La mano destra del Signore
No no no no no
Io mi brucio le ali nel volo radente
Di mie verginali, pretese di niente
mi sento d’un tratto le gote di
bianco
no no no no no
diciottesima strada la noia pervade
che il negro divida un osso col
cane
son quasi tentata di scrivere fine
no no no no no
La nave che batte bandiera pirata
Nasconde la notte, il cielo ti aiuta
La donna poi piange con lacrime
amare
No no no no no
Ma ti amo, ti amo, ti amo, ti amo,
ti amo.
No no no no no
The song "Ossessioni" by Mia Martini is a complex and abstract lyric that contains multiple metaphors and symbols that are open to interpretation. The song explores themes of war, religion, love, and loneliness, and delves into the struggles of a woman who is trying to find her place in the world. The opening lines refer to the sound of a trumpet and the march of the saints, which can be interpreted as a symbol of war and conflict. The soldiers with weapons in the wind are foolish and blind, as they are unable to see the true consequences of their actions. The woman pleads with her lover to stay with her, even though she must bear the weight of her own cross in his silence.
The song continues with references to the Ganges river, where the woman hopes to find redemption and cleansing for her sins. She speaks of Madonna and her seven children, as well as the struggles of a woman who fights alone against hungry wolves. The drums sound, and the blind man opens the door to both master and sheep. The woman feels as though she is burning her wings in a low flight and is suddenly overwhelmed with the sensation of white on her cheeks. The song ends with a reference to a pirate ship and a woman's tears, but also declares her love.
Overall, the song is a haunting and emotional exploration of themes related to war, religion, love, and isolation. It is open to interpretation and can be seen as a sensitive and poetic expression of the human condition.
