Blending Neofolk’s lush acoustic textures with the expansiveness of Post Rock, the intricacies of Progressive Rock, and the emotional weight of Metal, Musk Ox's self-titled debut full-length received unanimous acclaim from publications such as Decibel (US), Terrorizer (UK), Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles (CAN) and Blabbermouth.net.
Born out of a love for nature’s commanding beauty, and the captivating resonance of the nylon string guitar, Musk Ox was selected to open for Dark Metal legends Agalloch on two tours, and has also shared the stage with Kevin Hufnagel (Dysrhythmia, Gorguts), Mick Barr (Krallice, Ocrilim), Paul Kuhr (Novembers Doom) and Wardruna (ex-Gorgoroth).

Nathanael, do you have a musical education or did you learn to play the guitar on your own? I always thought that learning to play in this way is possible only with music education.

Thank you for the kind words! I studied classical guitar privately in 2005 for one year which is where I learnt technique and how to read music. It isn't the only path to learning this style but it worked for me. A private lesson with the right teacher is a great way to improve your knowledge and skills but there are many different paths to learning music so find the one that works best for you. Take care!

What is that pickup that you are using ?
I can"t decide myself about the pickups I need for my classical guitar ..

Amplifying classical guitars is tricky. This video is purely acoustic but the Godin La Patrie guitar I'm playing here just has a built in Godin pickup. However, I'm currently playing a Breedlove nylon string acoustic electric guitar with a Fishman pickup which I'm very happy with. I run it through an L.R Baggs Para Acoustic DI which boosts the signal and gives me more options to EQ the sound. I also use a reverb and delay pedal for atmosphere.
