Burn
Norah Jones Lyrics

And me in darklit rooms
Your cigarette cuts through
I wear it like perfume
The melody gives way
We silently behave
The story never ends
I see it in your eyes
Invitation lies
But pages left to turn
Our chapters we should burn
The melody gives way
We silently behave
The story never end
Is torn up into shreds
I see it in your eyes
An Invitation lies
But pages left to turn
Our chapters we should burn
In Norah Jones's song Burn, the lyrics paint a picture of two people who are entwined in a story that is slowly coming to an end. The opening lines suggest that these two individuals are in a room together, and the interplay of cigarettes and perfume is used to symbolize the dynamic between them. The cigarette is a rough, acrid scent that cuts through the air, while the perfume is a more delicate, subtle aroma that wafts around the space. These two scents blend together into something that's both heady and intriguing, hinting at the chemistry between the two people.
As the song progresses, the melody gives way to silence, indicating that something has shifted between these two individuals. The story they've been living together is now at a turning point, where it can either continue on or come to an end. The lyrics suggest that the two of them are hesitating, unsure of what action to take. The invitation for something more is there, but there are still pages left to turn before they can move on to the next chapter of their lives. In this moment of uncertainty, the singer suggests that they should burn the old chapters of their story and start anew.
Overall, Burn is a song about the bittersweet ending of a relationship or connection that was once strong. The lyrics capture the sense of melancholy and wistfulness that can come with such a situation. The singer encourages the listener to let go of the past and embrace the unknown future, reassuring them that they will never truly be alone as long as they have the courage to move forward.
