Sleeping Wild
Norah Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll be on my way
Seems that you have nothing left to say
But now that you
Have had a few
Words that were lost have found their way
I love you, adore you
Awake, but in the night
Sleeping wild
I love you, adore you
Awake, but in the night
Deceive you and leave you
Sleeping wild
In Norah Jones's song "Sleeping Wild," she sings about a relationship that is on the brink of falling apart. The lyrics suggest that it's getting late and the singer will be leaving soon, and it seems like the other person has nothing left to say. However, they start to open up after having a few drinks, and words that were once lost find their way back into conversation. The singer admits their love and adoration for the other person, but at the same time, there is a sense of uncertainty and deception. The phrase "sleeping wild" suggests that even though the other person may seem calm and peaceful during sleep, there is a side to them that is unknown and unpredictable.
The song's lyrics can be interpreted in a few ways. The first interpretation could be that the singer is afraid of the other person leaving them and is trying to save the relationship by expressing their love and affection. The second interpretation could be that the singer knows the relationship is not working out, but they are holding onto it because they don't want to be alone. The phrase "deceive you and leave you" could suggest that the other person is aware of this and is trying to distance themselves from the situation.
Norah Jones has a way of creating a melancholic atmosphere with her music and lyrics, and "Sleeping Wild" is no exception. The repetition of the phrase "I love you, adore you / Awake, but in the night / Deceive you and leave you / Sleeping wild" emphasizes the conflicts and contradictions in the singer's emotions.
