Panteón Rococó blend several styles of popular music such as rock, punk, salsa, cumbia, mariachi, reggae, ska, and also mestizo music into a very energetic, groovy sound. As they are very political people and sympathize with the EZLN in Chiapas, some of their lyrics contain political statements, but many others are love songs.
While very popular in Mexico, they are not so known in Europe, hence their contributions and tours there.

La ciudad de la esperanza / Malbicho
Panteón Rococó Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Trafico intenso, ambiente denso
In the opening of Panteón Rococó's song "La Ciudad De La Esperanza," the lyrics describe Mexico City as "the city of hope." Despite this hopeful sounding name, the city is portrayed as being constantly in motion and violent. The lyrical imagery likens the city to a dog chasing after the singer, snapping at their heels. It's a metaphor suggesting that the city is always nipping at the heels of the people who call it home. The lyrics note that Mexico City is a place where people are always in a hurry, with the clock ticking in their veins. The second verse describes how the people of the city treat each other. The crowded metro, the violence directed at women in public, and the chaos of traffic and crime all paint a picture of a city where people have become numb to the suffering of others.
The chorus repeats that Mexico City is the city of hope, but the following verses of the song paint a bleak picture of what living in the city is actually like. The wealthy and powerful extort the working people, dreams are fleeting, and justice only seems to come to those with power and influence. The song serves as a commentary on the social and economic conditions present in Mexico City at that time, emphasizing the realities of life that are often overlooked in the romanticized image of the "city of hope."
