In September 2001, Pierre Lapointe participated in the Festival international de la chanson de Granby, where he won three prizes. Lapointe created and presented his own show "Petites chansons laides" in Montreal and Quebec City, and in France -- which were his first songs start to play on radio stations. Critics have been very positive about him and his career.
In 2002, he received financing from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec to help him record a first commercial disc, and in the summer of 2003, he signed with Audiogram, which allowed him to produce his first disc, "Pierre Lapointe" (2004). It was an instant success. Pierre Lapointe's second album "La forêt des mal-aimés" (2006) was the #1 album in Canada for the first week after its release (28 000 CDs sold), and lifted Lapointe's eponymous first album to #7 in the charts.

Au bar des suicidés
Comme autrefois, on gardera les yeux fermés
Allez, on va danser
Allez, on va danser
Au bar des suicidés
Comme autrefois, on gardera les yeux fermés
Allez, on va danser
Allez, on va danser
Au bar des suicidés
Comme autrefois, on gardera les yeux fermés
Allez, on va danser
In Pierre Lapointe's song "Au bar des suicidés," the lyrics describe two lovers who are dancing at the Suicide Bar, a dark and dangerous place where people go to end their lives. The chorus repeats the line "Let's dance at the suicide bar" as a form of defiance against the inevitable, while also acknowledging the fatigue and pain of their love. Despite the somber setting and subject matter, the lyrics suggest a sense of acceptance and even amusement at their predicament, arguing that if they can't change their fate, they might as well laugh about it.
The first verse opens with the invitation to dance at the Suicide Bar, followed by the line "We'll keep our eyes closed like we used to." This could be interpreted as a metaphor for ignoring the harsh reality of their situation, or a symbol of their bond and shared history. The second verse focuses more on the singer's lover, describing their love as "too true" and "too real" to last, eventually leading to their demise. Even though the lovers are aware of the eventual outcome, they still choose to dance at the Suicide Bar and savor their time together.
The final verse takes a more fatalistic turn, with the singer acknowledging the possibility of death at the Suicide Bar, and asking their lover not to cry for them. They have accepted their fate and hold on to a small symbol of their love, a smile. The overall message of the song is one of embracing life's hardships with humor and grace, even in the face of death.

Damn ! Lâche pas Pierre ! T'é bon !
