They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.

Pizzicato Five's song The Sound of Music is a fun and vibrant song that expresses the excitement and joy of being in love. The lyrics are playful and contain a series of sound effects that add to the overall upbeat and cheerful feeling of the song. The song is essentially about the physical and emotional sensations that the singer experiences when thinking about their significant other. The opening lines, for instance, describe how the sound of a clock ticking and the telephone ringing remind the singer of their beloved. Later in the song, the singer uses the sound of a kiss and the sound of a fart to describe the intimate and goofy moments they share with their partner.
Another key theme in the song is the power of music to evoke strong emotions and memories. The singer repeatedly talks about how thinking of their significant other makes them feel like their head is full of fantastic melodies, and how they hear the sound of music whenever they think about them. The constant references to music tie in with the song's title and add to the overall joyous and celebratory mood.
Overall, The Sound of Music is a fun and catchy song about the joys of being in love and the power of music to evoke strong emotions and memories.

This was my introduction to P5 in about 1996. I was living in East Asia and this music marks the time in a really favourable way. Still have the CD and still play it. Sound quality is very good. A great upload - thanks!
Dog With Hands
This was my introduction to P5 and this album was lost for a decade or so it seems (At least for western audiences who couldn't access the albums!) . Thank you SO much!

Rock’n’Roll has got to be one of the biggest moods of all time. The sassiness. The kitsch. The je ne sais quoi. We love you, P5, forever and ever!
