Porter formed in 2004, and consisted of Juan Carlos Pereda "Mussgo" (who now performs under the name Juan Son), Juan Pablo Vázquez "Chata", Víctor Valverde "Villor", Fernando de la Huerta "Fher" and Diego Rangel "Bacter". At first, Porter was mainly an acoustic project, until vocalist Juan Carlos Pereda joined the line-up soon after the band's formation. In 2013 Porter has a new lead singer: David Velasco.
In 2005, the band issued its first realease, an EP called Donde Los Ponys Pastan, under the independent label 3er Piso. Singles Espiral and Daphne are both from this EP. Porter made it to the semi-finals of an indie rock band contest called "0-Music", with the song No Te Encuentro later that year. Their second release, and only long play album was Atemahawke, this being their most popular and acknowledged album. The only single from this album, Host of a Ghost, received substantial radio and TV play, as well as a music video. Porter achieved notable popularity on Mexican radio during their time together as a band, and played in important music festivals such as Vive Latino and Coachella, as well as opening for bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Strokes. After a hiatus and various rumors of disbanding, they dissolved after playing the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California in 2008. Former vocalist Juan Son went on to pursue a career as a solo artist.

Upon making the decision to leave the comfort of shared pressure, it took Porter over a year to conceptualize, write, and record his debut solo release, This Red Mountain
Do I Love You?

Poppin' them bottles of bub
Feeling like you be above
All these other motherfuckers
Nah, nah, you need to be seen
Stepping out that Bentley
Like you're that hot new thing
Man on your arm
Nobody locking you down
You buy your own rings
Hashtag slay queen
That's what the comments say
On all of your pics on your Instagram, shit
But what's it all really mean?
When you go home at the end of the day
And lay in bed away from the fray
So dismayed
Completely out of touch from reality
A little bit of clarity
With some unravelling
Baby it's easy to see
You got all the damn things in the world
But nothing you really want
Everything you need
But nobody there to love
Everything you need
But nobody there to love
So turn it up, turn it up
Keep on acting like you couldn't give a fuck
Soon enough you're gonna see the truth
I was always right there for you
All the love, when you don't deserve it
All the time, fuck I hope it was worth it
Baby
Turn it up, turn it up
Keep on acting like you couldn't give a fuck
Baby
Did you ever think you're the common denominator
Anytime it seems somebody turns away from ya
Fairweather friends
Like haters in disguise
So I'm dropping off the line
And saying goodbye
But give my best
To the man who bags you next
He's got a hell of a test
On the road ahead
Cause God damn you can be such a headcase
But maybe that's why I liked you in the first place
So turn it up, turn it up
Keep on acting like you couldn't give a fuck
Soon enough you're gonna see the truth
I was always right there for you
All the love, when you don't deserve it
All the time, fuck I hope it was worth it
Baby
Turn it up, turn it up
Keep on acting like you couldn't give a fuck
Baby
It's okay to just be who you really are
Trying to please everybody won't get you far
Don't have a house, or a pet, or a car
Safe to say that we're off to a terrible start
These lyrics to Porter's song "Do I Love You?" explore the theme of superficiality and the emptiness that can come with pursuing a glamorous and materialistic lifestyle. The song starts off by criticizing the notion that simply being in the club, popping bottles, and appearing superior to others is enough to bring happiness and fulfillment. The lyrics suggest that true happiness comes from genuine connections and love, rather than superficial status symbols and attention.
The song goes on to highlight the loneliness and isolation that can be felt even when surrounded by material wealth and popularity. Despite being admired and praised on social media, the singer realizes that these external validations are ultimately meaningless without someone to truly love and share their life with. There is a sense of disillusionment and self-awareness as the lyrics acknowledge the emptiness of the singer's life and the need for real connection.
In the second half of the song, the lyrics imply a sense of frustration and resignation. The singer acknowledges that they may have been the common denominator in their failed relationships, attracting fair-weather friends and experiencing disappointment when people turn away from them. The lyrics suggest that the singer is finally letting go and moving on, wishing the best for the next person who enters their ex-lover's life, but also recognizing the challenges they may face.
Overall, "Do I Love You?" serves as a critique of the shallow pursuit of material wealth and popularity, emphasizing the importance of genuine love and connection for true happiness.

I love you comes the April breeze
I love you echo the hills
I love you the golden dawn agrees
As once more she sees daffodils
It's spring again
And birds on the wing again
Start to sing again
The old melody
I love you
That's song of songs
And it all belongs
To you and me

I started using this video to help me memorize the major 7th descending. I'd never heard of the singer or the song before as I just saw it suggested for learning the Maj 7th. At first I did not really think much of the song, but after playing it over and over again I now love it! Such a classy song and she had such a stunning voice. I am now so glad I found this.

I just bought the sheet music for this for exactly the same reason. Unfortunately the rhythm on the sheet music is not the same as the rhythm she is using to sing the song.

I am not bothering to learn sheet music. Doing it all by ear first. Might go fake book later once I have all the intervals and chords memorized. And that song is perfect for Major 7th Descending. I have no problem recognizing it now. Plus it has become one of my favorites. I never though it could!

making a song about how hard it is to say "I love you", in which every instance of the phrase I love you is on a descending major 7th, one of the hardest intervals to sing. Brilliant

Yvan Cluet so you came here from "Musica Analytica" too?

Indeed :D
