The lyrics to Rekha Bhardwaj's song Sajan Kahe Na Bole Bain consist of the same repeated phrase: "Sajan kahe na bolo." The translation of this phrase is "Let not my beloved speak." The song explores the theme of forbidden love and heartbreak. The singer of the song is in love with someone who is either unavailable or not allowed to reciprocate their feelings. The repeated phrase serves as a plea to their beloved to not speak and reveal their true feelings. The singer is painfully aware of the societal and cultural obstacles that prevent them from being with their beloved.
The song's repetitive nature plays a significant role in creating a sense of longing, yearning, and desperation. The somber melody and Bhardwaj's emotive vocals add to the melancholy tone of the lyrics. The song captures the sense of being silenced and not being able to express one's true feelings due to social and cultural norms.
