Les couleurs
Robert Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

J'irai marcher dans le froid
Couvrir mon visage de neige
Glacer mon corps
Jusqu'à l'immobilité
Et m'endormir sans le savoir

J'aurais voulu peindre ton visage

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Robert's song Les couleurs paint a picture of a person walking in the cold, with their face covered in snow, until their body freezes to immobility and they fall asleep without realizing it. The imagery is very vivid, and gives the listener a sense of isolation, loneliness and even death - the idea of freezing oneself to death is present here. The second verse indicates a desire to paint someone's face, but an inability to do so because the singer doesn't know the colors. This could represent a lack of knowledge, skill or experience in art, or a metaphor for the inability to express oneself in general. The third verse brings in music, which will come from very far away, a distant echo that only reaches the trees, and it will make it snow. The contrast of the warmth from somewhere else, and the cold and isolation of the singer's current setting, adds to the poignant feelings this song conveys. Finally, the last line suggests that elsewhere, in a warm place, children will be born, oblivious to the singer's frozen state.
