Robin and the Backstabbers Lyrics

The lyrics of the song "Pastă de dinți sau Mii de ani de mâine" by Robin and the Backstabbers are rich with imagery and metaphors, creating a sense of nostalgia and regret. The first verse describes rain falling through a broken roof, but it's not ordinary rain, it's "with gasoline and asphalt", creating a sense of destruction and pollution. The singer reveals that he has escaped from fire and hunting, but is now returning calmly to turn the other cheek. He is back at his old home, where there was a well and a phone operator named Marga, who had lost a hand. The tomb is full of darkness and the sky is full of storms. The singer remembers attending a wedding with someone when a siren sounded. He left behind only a shadow and an echo, and put toothpaste on the handle again.
The second verse talks about the passage of time and the feeling of being powerless to stop it. The author reflects on the need to find ownership, to create a sense of belonging, and to face the cold with more ease. He expresses the desire to learn a new anthem and to sing it in waiting halls, possibly referencing hospitals or train stations. In this verse, the singer mentions his school days with the mayor Lazar, his first kiss, and his neighbor's dying question about why people choose to build their homes outside. The verse ends with a reference to a gift of fireworks hidden under a pillow from the singer's saintly parents, and the final line asks the listener to come back home, with toothpaste.
