The first demo-tape "Nostalgische Atavismen" sold more than 500 copies in the worldwide underground, slowly spreading the news that "Samsas Traum" someday might become more than a very strange little band with even stranger german vocals. After recording and releasing two more demo- and promo-tapes, the band signed their record deal with "Trisol Music Group Germany" (London After Midnight, Sopor Aeternus, L'âme Immortelle) on the 1st of march 1999, exactly three years after the bands foundation. The chief-manager of "Trisol" got to know about "Samsas Traum" randomly; he was phoning "Orkus Magazine" concerning adverts, and the person in charge listened to the bands' latest promo-release while talking to him.

The lyrics to Samsas Traum's song Ein Duell mit Gott begin with a small girl standing before the singer, to whom he has presented a piece that will quickly teach her to be scared. The curtain rises and the stage is set on fire, signifying that the play is about to begin. The singer warns the audience to watch out for a cloven-hoofed man as they all search for more laudanum, and skeletons dance silently in the background. The something that approaches is familiar to the singer in the form of the slime that was a punishment delivered to them by a messenger of God. The singer then invites everyone to wake up their ghosts, hear the wails of dead children, and taste the pitch-black lips of Hades.
The singer intends for them all to spar with God, darkness, and terror, in order to be creators. However, God's path from the cradle to perdition is drawn on every face, signifying that everything born must eventually die. The song crescendos as the singer laments how their creation of sin will bring them pleasure and punishment, and declares they will burn in hell for trying to understand God by calling out his name.
