Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll see, I'll see her
See nothing
Fall E-V-A-Y
Oh, to ride
So now follow these lights
Cause soon you'll be steering through the trees
Beneath the street
Whoa, you're letting go
So, today your miracle
Is starting out to be something
Stay like a miracle
You're always gonna be something
Even in your shoes
Telephone lines
Are streaming in silence
From your machines
Still looking for the broken link
In history
Oh your letting go
So wherever you go
Wherever you go (wherever you go)
I want to go (I want to go)
Wherever you go (wherever you go)
Today your miracle
Is starting out to be
Something
Stay like a miracle
Your always gonna be
Something
Even in your shoes
Even in your shoes
Wherever you go
I want to go
Wherever you go
Wherever you go
Wherever you go
I want to go
Wherever you go
Wherever you go
I want to go
The lyrics of Shiny Toy Guns' "e v a y" may seem vague and enigmatic at first, but a closer look reveals a contemplation of freedom, change, and the relentlessness of time. The song starts with a short repetition of "I'll see her, see nothing, fall E-V-A-Y, oh, to ride," which sets the tone for the rest of the track. The words "see nothing" and "fall" suggest a loss of control or direction, as if the singer is being pulled by a force greater than themselves.
The following lines, "So now follow these lights, cause soon you'll be steering through the trees," seem to offer guidance to the listener, urging them to trust the path they're on even if it might lead them into the unknown. The phrase "When everything pulls apart beneath the street, whoa, you're letting go" reinforces this idea of letting go of safety and familiarity in order to experience something new and thrilling.
As the song progresses, it introduces the motif of a "miracle," which appears to represent a moment of clarity or self-discovery. The words "Today your miracle is starting out to be something, stay like a miracle, you're always gonna be something, even in your shoes" suggest that change is always possible if one stays open to it, and that one's identity or worth is not determined by external factors like appearance or material possessions.
The chorus of "wherever you go, I want to go" is both a declaration of loyalty to a particular person or adventure, as well as a reminder that we are all interconnected in some way. The repeating of the phrase at the end of the song reinforces this message, suggesting that our paths may diverge but our desire for connection and companionship remains constant.
