Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Into the trees
We'll lay on the grass
And let the hours pass
Take my hand
Come back to the land
Lets get away
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Metropolis
Has nothing on this
You're breathing in fumes
I taste when we kiss
Take my hand
Come back to the land
Where everything's ours
For a few hours
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Let me hear you
Make decisions
Without your television
Let me hear you speaking
Just for me
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Let me hear you speaking
Just for me
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone let me hear you crying
Just for me
The lyrics of Shiny Toy Guns’ song Stripped are a call for escapism – a chance for the listener to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and find solace in nature. The opening lines of the song invite the listener to join the singer and ‘lay on the grass and let the hours pass,’ suggesting a desire for freedom from society’s constraints. The chorus line ‘Let me see you stripped down to the bone’ seems to be a metaphor for vulnerability and baring oneself emotionally without any pretense. The singer yearns for honesty, sincere communication, and the chance to connect with someone on a deeper level, away from the distractions of modern life.
The second verse expands on this idea of escapism, painting a picture of a polluted city that cannot compare to the purity of nature. The singer extends the invitation for the listener to join them, to ‘come back to the land’ and escape the noise and crowds of the city for a while. In the bridge, the singer calls for the listener to disconnect from technology, ‘without your television,’ and to speak candidly, ‘just for me.’ The final chorus begs the listener to be vulnerable, to ‘let me hear you crying, just for me,’ to express their emotions without shame and be seen for who they truly are.

How I interpret this song is wanting to know every part of someone. You want every raw emotional part of them. Every vulnerability and breakdown. You don't just want the smiles you want the tears. It's loving someone so deeply you want to see them stripped of every facade to where only the real person underneath is shown flaws and all.
