Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

(I'll Wait For)
I started out going out of control
I believe you wanna save my searching soul
Thought I met you in conversation
But I'm alone with your voice inside my head
I want the fire back bending me back in shape
I hit the floor when the thoughts are too much pain
And you said I'll save your broken heart
Next time I'll wait for the sun (oh)
Next time I'll wait for the sun (oh)
Next time I'll wait for (I'll wait) I'll wait for the sun
I know your dreams are full of dragons
Speaking words in foreign language
And now you're stuck like oil to canvas
And you're alone with my voice inside your head
It was December when the cold ran down your face
Far along, far away from goodness grace
You hit the floor when the thoughts are too much pain
And I swear I'll save your broken heart
Next time I'll wait for the sun (oh)
Next time I'll wait for the sun (oh)
Next time I'll wait for (I'll wait) I'll wait for the sun
Next time I'll wait for (I'll wait) I'll wait for the sun
Waiting for you
I wait here for you
I wait here for you
Waiting for you
(I wait for)
Next time I'll wait for the sun (oh)
Next time I'll wait for the sun (oh)
Next time I'll wait for (I'll wait) I'll wait for the sun
Next time I'll wait for (I'll wait) I'll wait for the sun
Next time I'll wait for (I'll wait) I'll wait for the sun
The lyrics of Shiny Toy Guns' song "The Sun" seem to be about longing for someone's love and feeling incomplete without it. The singer talks about how they started out going out of control and how they believe that the person they are longing for can save their searching soul. The singer is alone, but they have the other person's voice inside their head, which suggests that they are still holding onto the memories of the person they long for.
The song switches perspectives and we hear about the other person's dreams, which are full of dragons and foreign language. Both of them seem stuck in their own mental spaces, with the singer wanting the other person to save their broken heart and the other person hitting the floor when thoughts become too painful. The singer promises to save the other person's broken heart.
The chorus "Next time I'll wait for the sun" is repeated throughout the song, suggesting that both protagonists are waiting for something better to come along. They are waiting for a time when they will find happiness again, and the sun could represent that hope.
Overall, the song seems to be about two people who are struggling to find happiness without each other. They are holding onto their memories of each other and hoping for a brighter future.

What I'm Listening To
This song reminds me of my high school photography class. I used to listen to it obsessively while in the dark room developing my negatives. I remember being so excited about "III" being released and hoped that the rest of it sounded like "The Sun." Even though it wasn't until 2012 when the full album came out- 2 years after "The Sun" was released- I felt it was completely worth the wait. To this day, I love both the song and the album. I hope these guys continue to make music like this and, perhaps, see another full-length release in the future.
