BINGO
The C.R.S. Players Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner

I am waiting
At the counter
For the man
To pour the coffee

And he fills it
Only halfway
And before
I even argue

He is looking
Out the window
At somebody
Coming in

"It is always
Nice to see you"
Says the man
Behind the counter

To the woman
Who has come in
She is shaking
Her umbrella

And I look
The other way
As they are kissing
Their hellos

I'm pretending
Not to see them
And Instead
I pour the milk

I open
Up the paper
There's a story
Of an actor

Who had died
While he was drinking
He was no one
I had heard of

And I'm turning
To the horoscope
And looking
For the funnies

When I'm feeling
Someone watching me
And so
I raise my head

There's a woman
On the outside
Looking inside
Does she see me?

No she does not
Really see me
Cause she sees
Her own reflection

And I'm trying
Not to notice
That she's hitching
Up her skirt

And while she's
Straightening her stockings
Her hair
Is getting wet

Oh, this rain
It will continue
Through the morning
As I'm listening

To the bells
Of the cathedral
I am thinking
Of your voice

And of the midnight picnic
Once upon a time
Before the rain began

I finish up my coffee
It's time to catch the train

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The C.R.S. Players' song BINGO paint a vivid picture of a person sitting in a diner, observing the world around them while lost in thought. The beginning of the song sets the scene, with the singer sitting in the morning light at a diner corner, waiting for their coffee. Before they know it, the man has already filled it halfway, and they are looking to argue, but the man behind the counter is already focused on greeting the woman who has walked in.

As the woman enters, shaking her umbrella, the singer looks away as they greet each other. The singer is subtly pretending not to see them and instead pours their milk, withdrawing into their paper. As he reads, the singer imagines that someone is watching him, and he raises his head just in time to see a woman outside who seems to be looking inside. However, she is only seeing her own reflection in the window.

As the rain continues to pour, the singer thinks about the bells of the cathedral and recalls a past memory of a midnight picnic before the rain began. By the end of the song, the singer finishes his coffee and leaves the diner, ready to catch his train. The lyrics are a commentary on the mundanity of daily life and the power of reminiscence to transport us to another time and place.
