Stylisticly, The Feeling have a debt of gratitude to the 70s, particularly bands such as 10cc, Supertramp, Pilot, Buggles, Queen, Stackridge, and other "progressive pop" acts. They are not averse to wearing their heart on their sleeve at gigs, playing covers of tunes by their favourite artists (such as 'Video Killed The Radio Star' by Buggles).
The Feeling have also followed the 'progressive' tradition of the concept album, with Twelve Stops and Home being a concept album about lost and unrequited love. The album starts with a relationship having just broken up, then follows through with the various emotions of the protagonist from hopeless dreamer to turning to drink for comfort, and finally slumping home.

I hit the ditch, you carried on
I was so near, now you're so far
Are you quite sure, just who you are?
Oh I-I-I-I-I-I, know you could choose a friend but you don't seem to have the time
Oh I-I-I-I-I-I, I wonder if you ever get to say what's on your mind
Come on, take a little time
I love it when you call
I love it when you call
I love it when you call
But you never call at all
Say what's the complication
It's only conversation
I love it when you call
But you never call at all, whoa-oh
(He loves it when you call)
(He loves it when you call)
Remember me, I used to be
Your best time buddy that you couldn't wait to see
But gettin' old, it takes a toll
And hearts getting broken lead to people growin' cold
Oh I-I-I-I-I-I, I'm thinking were the kind that's got a tale on either side
Oh I-I-I-I-I-I, I'm gonna be the one who makes you stop and realize
You could have it all
Yeah, we should have it all
I love it when you call (He loves it when you call)
I love it when you call (He loves it when you call)
I love it when you call
But you never call at all
So what's the complication
It's only conversation
I love it when you call
But you never call at all, whoa-oh
(He loves it when you call)
(He loves it when you call)
Now I wonder where you've been
Yeah I wonder who you've seen
Now I hope you find your dream
When you do I really hope its all it seems
I love it when you call
I love it when you call
I love it when you call
But you never call at all
Say what's the complication
It's only conversation
I love it when you call
But you never call at all, whoa!
The Feeling's song "Love It When You Call" is about unrequited love and the frustration of constantly reaching out to someone who never reciprocates. The lyrics describe the feeling of being left behind and forgotten by a friend who has moved on and grown distant. The singer is trying to reconnect with this person but realizes that they may not have the same level of interest or commitment. The chorus "I love it when you call, but you never call at all" is a bittersweet reminder of what once was and what could have been. The song is a nostalgic look back at a lost friendship and a plea for reconciliation.
The verses of the song are filled with imagery that reflects the singer's inner turmoil. The line "I found a switch, you turned it on, I hit the ditch, you carried on" is a metaphor for the sudden change in the relationship and the aftermath that the singer is dealing with. The line "Remember me, I used to be your best time buddy that you couldn't wait to see" reinforces the idea of a friendship that was once close and intimate but has now grown apart.
The chorus of the song is catchy and upbeat, creating a contrast between the melancholic verses and the hopeful refrain. The repetition of "I love it when you call" in the chorus is almost pleading, highlighting the desperation of wanting someone to reach out and keep the connection alive.
Overall, "Love It When You Call" is a relatable and emotional song that captures the feeling of loss and longing that comes with changing relationships.

Encontré un interruptor
Lo encendió
Golpea la zanja
Y continuó
Estaba tan cerca
A quien no podías esperar a ver
Sí, me pregunto dónde has estado
Sí, me pregunto a quién has visto

Reminds me of back in 2007... being up all night after a night out where I finally kissed a girl I'd fancied for ages. Good times.
