1. the pillows (ザ・ピロウズ) are an alternative rock band from Hokkaidō, Japan, best known outside Japan for their contributions to the soundtrack of the anime series FLCL (Fooly Cooly).
They consist of 山中さわお (Sawao Yamanaka) -vocals & guitar-, 真鍋吉明 (Yoshiaki Manabe) -guitar-, 佐藤シンイチロウ (Shinichiro Sato) -drums-.
The band officially formed on September 16, 1989 as a four-man group. The fourth man and original bassist, 上田ケンジ (Kenji Ueda), left the band in 1992 to become a music producer and do solo work. Going Down
The Pillows Lyrics

あいまいな曇り空の下で
何がしたいのか ピンと来ないまま
あいまいな曇り空の下で
いつの間にか僕の胸の中に
濁った水溜まりが出来た
思い出したくない影
Going down
Going down
The first verse of Going Down by The Pillows is about feeling lost and uncertain. The unclear weather outside mirrors the character's inner turmoil, as they don't know where to go or who to go with. They don't know what they want, with their mind feeling just as cloudy as the sky above. As time has passed, they've become overwhelmed with unwanted memories that they try to bury deep within themselves. This leads to a sense of drowning, as they feel like they're going down into a murky, uncomfortable place.
The second verse of the song continues this theme of confusion and struggle. The character finds themselves in front of a bend in the road that they can't quite see around, unsure of what's ahead. They've been feeling thirsty for days, with no resolution in sight. In addition, they feel like they're being used and fed off by people who don't care for them, which only adds to their anxieties. Despite this, there are some things that the character doesn't want to forget, and they feel a call to move forward even if it means feeling pain.
Overall, Going Down is a song that speaks to the experience of being lost and anxious. The lyrics are ambiguous but emotional, allowing the listener to project their own fears and uncertainties onto the character's struggles. The music itself is driving and urgent, with the band's signature rock sound helping to convey a sense of forward motion even when the character feels trapped.
