Nos excuses à nos parents

Sous la neige
Les cigarettes, le café froid
Pour seul repas
À la radio, les grands discours
Sèment l’émoi
Monopole de la violence
À l’intérieur, même le sommeil
Est un combat
La nuit, on rêve qu’un jour enfin
On dormira
On passe les journées à repousser
La démence
Sans possession, ne reste plus
Que la patience
Notre colère est une bouteille
À l’océan
Et la marée atteint toujours
Les continents
Votre arsenal de métal
Tout entier
Ne saura briser le moral
Des prisonniers
Je sais bien qu’on est humain
Vous et moi
Votre système, votre système
Ne l’est pas
Notre colère est une bouteille
À l’océan
Et la marée atteint toujours
Les continents
Nos excuses, nos excuses
À nos parents
On préfère la souffrance
Au silence
Mon corps est un outil de changement
(Mon corps est un outil de changement)
Mon corps est un objet de changement
(Mon corps est un objet de changement)
Mon corps est un outil de changement
(Mon corps est un outil de changement)
Mon corps est un objet de changement
(Mon corps est un)
Notre colère est une bouteille
À l’océan
Et la marée atteint toujours
Les continents
Nos excuses, nos excuses
À nos parents
Notre vengeance sera le rire
De nos enfants
Notre vengeance sera le rire
De nos enfants
Notre vengeance sera le rire
De nos enfants
The lyrics of Thierry Bruyère's song "Nos excuses à nos parents" convey a powerful and heartfelt message about the struggles and frustrations experienced by a generation living in a world filled with violence, oppression, and societal constraints. The song's chorus emphasizes the theme of expressing anger and dissatisfaction in a way that reaches beyond individual boundaries and resonates globally.
The opening verse describes a brief respite from the harsh realities of life, symbolized by a quarter-hour of forgetfulness under the snow. It speaks to the fleeting moments of escape people find amid their difficult circumstances. The mention of cigarettes and cold coffee as a sole meal alludes to the desolation and minimalism of their existence.
The following lines highlight the impact of media and political propaganda, causing agitation among the listeners. These speeches, monopolizing violence in the name of the state, suggest that the violence perpetrated by those in power is justified by the interests of the state. It serves as a critique of the corruption and manipulation present in society.
The lyrics then delve into the personal struggle for peace within oneself. Even sleep becomes a battleground, seemingly elusive and unattainable. The desire for a simple night of rest reflects the longing for a future where peace can be found. The repetitiveness of this dream implies the persistence and resilience of the individual's hope.
The verse that follows speaks to the constant fight against insanity and despair, where patience is the only remaining virtue. Without possessions or control, the only option is to endure and wait for a change. It showcases the perseverance and resistance of the oppressed.
The chorus of the song reveals the strong and unwavering nature of their anger. The metaphor of their anger as a bottle in the ocean demonstrates that their frustration and resentment will not be contained or ignored. It gradually reaches every corner of the world, symbolizing the far-reaching consequences of their discontent.
The next verse alludes to the ineffectiveness of the oppressors' tools of control. The use of metal as a metaphor for their arsenal reveals its inability to break the prisoners' spirit and determination. It highlights the fundamental difference between the oppressors and the oppressed, emphasizing that despite being humans, their system lacks the same qualities of humanity.
The repetition of the chorus reinforces the idea of anger being released into the world, influencing continents beyond their immediate surroundings. The lyrics then shift to a sense of reflection and remorse, offering apologies to their parents for choosing suffering over silence. It acknowledges that their struggle may have caused pain to those they care for, but it also underlines the importance of expressing their dissatisfaction.
The closing verses express a powerful sentiment of hope and renewal through the laughter of their future children. Their vengeance will be found in the joy and happiness that their children will experience, inspiring a sense of accomplishment and overcoming the challenges of their generation. It becomes a symbol of a future that is brighter and freer than the present.
Overall, "Nos excuses à nos parents" is a poignant and introspective song that examines the complexities of living in a world filled with injustice and hardship. It encapsulates the frustration, resistance, and dreams for a better future that resonate with many individuals facing similar realities.
