After forming in 2001, the band's incessant dedication to both the stage, the road, and the writing process earned them the attention of Orlando-based One Eleven Records. Signing with the label in 2002, the band immediately got to work on its freshman release "Start Over On Monday".
After condensing the introspective, yet pop sensible nature of their music into thirteen watertight tracks, "Always Leave the Ground" was born. After more than a year and a half on tour in support of their debut, and heading overseas to Japan, This Day & Age then released their highly anticipated follow up record, "The Bell & the Hammer."
As of October 24th, 2006, This Day & Age is on an indefinite leave of absence due to Jeff leaving the band. The remaining members are now a band called The Reign of Kindo.

This Day & Age Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In a space
With barely enough room to think
I'm trying to get past myself
I don't know who I am
In this room without a view
All I can see is you
This is my only hope
That I may walk
Through the darkness
And find my way home
Looking towards the sky
I know before
That I pushed your love away
But I can see your outstretched arms
I just found who I am.
These lyrics from This Day & Age's song "A New Focus" convey a sense of restlessness and a desire for self-discovery. The singer feels like they are trapped in a small space and unable to fully understand themselves. They are struggling to move past their own self-doubt and insecurity in order to reach their potential. All they can see is the person they love, and they hope that this connection will give them the strength to find their way out of the darkness and confusion they are experiencing.
The line "I know before that I pushed your love away" suggests that the singer may have been in a relationship that they regret destroying. They are now looking towards the sky and seeking forgiveness and redemption from the person they hurt. The final line, "I just found who I am," indicates that the singer has had a breakthrough and is now beginning to understand themselves more fully. The song as a whole speaks to the human struggle to find meaning and purpose, and the power of love to help us through difficult times.
