After forming in 2001, the band's incessant dedication to both the stage, the road, and the writing process earned them the attention of Orlando-based One Eleven Records. Signing with the label in 2002, the band immediately got to work on its freshman release "Start Over On Monday".
After condensing the introspective, yet pop sensible nature of their music into thirteen watertight tracks, "Always Leave the Ground" was born. After more than a year and a half on tour in support of their debut, and heading overseas to Japan, This Day & Age then released their highly anticipated follow up record, "The Bell & the Hammer."
As of October 24th, 2006, This Day & Age is on an indefinite leave of absence due to Jeff leaving the band. The remaining members are now a band called The Reign of Kindo.

This Day & Age Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That he wants to hear
Your life's been put on hold
For almost two years
You've tried and
You've tried and
You gave it your all
His dreams are too small
And we used to be afraid
But we found our way
Hello to a broken world
That has gone on without you
In twenty years
You haven't found any evidence of truth
I don't blame you
For questioning why people fall in love
It's all the things
You were taught to run from
The lyrics to This Day & Age's song Hourglass tell the story of someone who has been stuck in a relationship that has prevented them from moving forward for almost two years. Despite all the efforts they have put into making it work, their partner's small dreams don't align with their own, and it's time for them to say goodbye. The word "goodbye" isn't what the partner wants to hear, but the singer knows it's the best thing for them. The world has moved on without them as they were preoccupied with this relationship, and it's time to embrace the brokenness of the world and start looking for truth.
The lyrics convey a universal message of letting go of something that isn't working, even if it's painful to do so. The line "His dreams are too small" suggests that the partner may not have aspirations that align with the singer's, and that's a fundamental issue that cannot be overcome. The theme of questioning love and running away from it is also prevalent.
