After forming in 2001, the band's incessant dedication to both the stage, the road, and the writing process earned them the attention of Orlando-based One Eleven Records. Signing with the label in 2002, the band immediately got to work on its freshman release "Start Over On Monday".
After condensing the introspective, yet pop sensible nature of their music into thirteen watertight tracks, "Always Leave the Ground" was born. After more than a year and a half on tour in support of their debut, and heading overseas to Japan, This Day & Age then released their highly anticipated follow up record, "The Bell & the Hammer."
As of October 24th, 2006, This Day & Age is on an indefinite leave of absence due to Jeff leaving the band. The remaining members are now a band called The Reign of Kindo.

The Day We Started
This Day & Age Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But somethings aren't so clear
Like when you close your eyes
Do you dream of better times
We're touching the pen
To the paper and drawing new lines
(I know that)
I found truth in you
I knew the day we started
Love dies too
Missing you since the day we parted
Nothing stays the same
With every loss you'll find gain
I'm searching for a new hope
Love comes quick but fades slow
We're writing the words
To the song we started years ago
The lyrics of This Day & Age's song "The Day We Started" reflect the confusion that can accompany love, even when it is felt deeply. The singer acknowledges that while he loves the person addressed in the song, there are aspects of their relationship that aren't clear. He asks a rhetorical question about whether his partner dreams of "better times," suggesting that they might not be happy with the current state of things. The lines "We're touching the pen / To the paper and drawing new lines" suggest that they are making changes to their relationship, perhaps trying to make it work despite uncertainty.
Despite the difficulties, the singer knows that he found something real and true when he started his relationship with this person. He recognized this from the very beginning ("I knew the day we started"), and it is clear that he still feels that way, despite the distance between them ("Missing you since the day we parted"). The lyrics acknowledge that love can sometimes fade ("Love dies too"), but also that change can bring something new and positive ("With every loss you'll find gain"). The last line of the song, "We're writing the words / To the song we started years ago," suggests that the singer and his partner are committed to building something lasting, despite the challenges they face.
Overall, "The Day We Started" is a song about the complexities of relationships and the power of love to persist through difficult times.
