After forming in 2001, the band's incessant dedication to both the stage, the road, and the writing process earned them the attention of Orlando-based One Eleven Records. Signing with the label in 2002, the band immediately got to work on its freshman release "Start Over On Monday".
After condensing the introspective, yet pop sensible nature of their music into thirteen watertight tracks, "Always Leave the Ground" was born. After more than a year and a half on tour in support of their debut, and heading overseas to Japan, This Day & Age then released their highly anticipated follow up record, "The Bell & the Hammer."
As of October 24th, 2006, This Day & Age is on an indefinite leave of absence due to Jeff leaving the band. The remaining members are now a band called The Reign of Kindo.

Second Place Victory
This Day & Age Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The song "Second Place Victory" by This Day & Age talks about a bittersweet realization of a failed relationship, accepting the pain it caused, and moving on to find personal growth and meaning. The opening line "It's breathtaking to think of you and to learn that sometimes the only way out is through" indicates that the person is reflecting on their past relationship and how it led them to where they are. Then, the lyrics "I'd run to you now if I could but things have changed" implies that there's no way to fix the relationship and the person has moved on.
The next two lines "let's show them how to live, accept the pain always forgive" suggest the idea of using their own experience as an inspiration for others to grow stronger from hardships. The phrase "watch the sun go down and learn the sound of following all that's complete" can be interpreted as taking the time to appreciate the beauty surrounding them and acknowledge that everything in life follows a natural course. The chorus adds "to learn without faith the sky isn't as blue", meaning breaking away from the past and starting to see the world in a new light.
The lyrics "we'll look towards the stars and dream that we're airplanes" serves as the song's ending, it indicates that the person is moving forward, dreaming of new things, and finding excitement about the future.
