We might be in bed together but the deal's not signed
They say you collect shrunken heads, would you like to have mine?
Patty Don't You Put Me Down
Don't colour me cruel
You're so used to skimming the ace and palming the jack
At society functions they probably give you more slack
Patty Don't You Put Me Down
Don't colour me cruel
You can stamp all you want, but this ain't television
I can't fix it all with a small incision
It's a meltdown you're having, not nuclear fission
There's no room service at the seaman's mission
In your ten watt world it's beyond any pleasure you know
To stick your fingers in the socket, and give yourself a glow
Keep that up and they might make you part of the show
Patty Don't You Put Me Down
Don't colour me cruel
The song "Put u raj" by Thompson is a powerful expression of a relationship that has been damaged by mistrust and manipulation. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and anger towards the woman in question, Patty, who is accused of not being straightforward and honest with her partner. The opening lines, "Patty don't tell me one thing and change your mind, we might be in bed together but the deal's not signed" suggests that there is a lack of commitment and trust between the two, with Patty's intentions and words consistently changing.
The second verse provides insight into Patty's character and behavior, suggesting that she is someone who is adept at deceiving others for her gain. "You're so used to skimming the ace and palming the jack, the right hand giving and the left hand taking it back, at society functions they probably give you more slack" paints a picture of someone who is manipulative and always trying to gain the upper hand. This is followed by the chorus, "Patty Don't You Put Me Down, Don't colour me cruel" which seems to indicate that while the singer is angry and frustrated with Patty, he still cares for her and doesn't want to be seen as cruel by others.
The last verse takes a different turn, highlighting the singer's frustration with Patty's behavior and how he cannot fix things no matter how hard he tries. The line "there's no room service at the seaman's mission" suggests that the situation is beyond his control and that the metaphorical "meltdown" Patty is having cannot be resolved easily. The final lines, "to stick your fingers in the socket, and give yourself a glow, keep that up and they might make you part of the show" convey a sense of warning and desperation to Patty, urging her not to continue her ways or risk becoming an object of ridicule.
