Original 8-bit sounds are done by having low bitrates of WAV compression, but with AAC/MP3 compression, it uses techniques to fit more quality into the file, but at low bitrates, it sounds farther and farther from the original file by smoothing the waveform instead of having rigid square oscillations. The most 8-bit sound would be achieved at the highest quality in this case.
