Volcano
Twin Atlantic Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sickly, twisted, feels good
Running like I'm guilty
You know I′m an innocent fool
You're pushing without warning
Praying that I can heal you
Help me climb back on it
So if you really want it
Girl, you have to play good
Focus on the feeling
Majestic and misunderstood
Turn it up, upside-down
Lift my feet off the ground
Make me wait, make me pray
Over the volcano
Put it down, underground
It′s controlling me now
Make me wait, make me pray
Over the volcano
Don′t make me burst that bubble
Cleansing, milky, see-through
Eyes connected to the Gods
Swimming without any view
So feel it start to slip right through your fingers
Oh, you're so generous, I′m your redeemer
Ritually relevant
Just keep on taking me to the top
Soaking me, acid-infused
So if you really want it
Girl, you have to play good
Focus on the feeling
Majestic and misunderstood
Turn it up, upside-down
Lift my feet off the ground
Make me wait, make me pray
Over the volcano
Put it down, underground
It's controlling me now
Make me wait, make me pray
Over the volcano
I′d sacrifice it all
My body and my soul
You bring me back to life
Completely
Turn it up, upside-down
Lift my feet off the ground
Make me wait, make me pray
Over the volcano
Put it down, underground
It's controlling me now
Make me wait, make me pray
Over the volcano
I′d sacrifice it all
My body and my soul
You bring me back to life
Completely
The lyrics of Twin Atlantic's song "Volcano" describe a toxic relationship in which the singer is willingly being controlled by their partner. The imagery of a volcano is used to represent the singer's emotions, which are described as being explosive and out of control. The opening lines of the song suggest that the singer is aware of their unhealthy dynamic with their partner, but cannot resist their influence. The lines "You got me 'round that finger / Sickly, twisted, feels good" convey a sense of vulnerability and surrender to the manipulative power of their partner.
The chorus of the song reinforces this theme of surrender and emotional turmoil. The lyrics "Make me wait, make me pray / Over the volcano" suggest that the singer is willingly subjecting themselves to emotional upheaval, and even finds it pleasurable in some sense. The lines "I'd sacrifice it all / My body and my soul / You bring me back to life / Completely" express an all-consuming devotion to their partner, even if it ultimately harms them.
Overall, "Volcano" is a powerful exploration of the dynamics of toxic relationships, and the emotional hold that one partner can have over another. The lyrics use vivid imagery to convey the sheer intensity of the singer's feelings, and the chorus builds to a haunting crescendo that reflects the emotional turmoil of the relationship.
