Your life's just begun
Don't you wonder, wonder so?
How it, it will go?
Want to know? Want to know?
Want to know? Want to know?
How it goes? How it goes?
Your mama, she wants you home
And Jamie, she's oh so cold
Oh, she's wondering so
How it, it will go
Wants to know, wants to know
Wants to know, wants to know
How it goes? How it goes?
How it goes? How it goes?
In Ty Segall's song "Don't You Want To Know?" the lyrics focus on the uncertainty and curiosity that young people have about their futures as they navigate through life. The song has a sense of urgency, with the repeated questioning of "Don't you want to know?". This is directed at a young girl named Susie, who has just started her life and wonders how it will play out. The first verse mentions Susie's "life's just begun", emphasizing that she is at the beginning of her journey and has a lot to discover about the world.
The second verse brings up Susie's mother and Jamie, who are both worried about her future. Jamie is "oh so cold" which may suggest that she is distant or unapproachable, adding to the feeling of uncertainty that Susie is experiencing. The repeated questioning of "how it, it will go?" in both verses reflects that Susie and her loved ones are all unsure about what her future holds, and are searching for answers.
Overall, the song captures the anxiety and wonder that young people experience as they navigate their way through life's unknowns, and how those around them can also feel this uncertainty.
